The Basten Difference

If You’ve Fixed This Before, You’re Not Alone

Many homeowners have already tried to fix their basement water problem. A patch. A seal. A short-term solution that seemed to work, until it didn’t.

Water problems usually are not about one crack or one bad storm. They are about how water builds up and moves around your foundation every day.

That is why quick repairs often fail. Lasting waterproofing starts with understanding the full picture before recommending a solution.

Not Sure If You Have a Basement or Foundation Problem?

Many homeowners wait for visible damage before calling, but by then, repairs are often more involved and more expensive.

Common signs we see before bigger problems start

  1. Cracks in basement walls or floors, even small ones
  2. Walls that appear bowed, leaning, or bulging
  3. Ongoing dampness, water stains, or musty odors
  4. White, chalky residue on basement walls (efflorescence)
  5. Doors or windows that stick or no longer close properly
  6. Uneven or sloping floors on upper levels
  7. Water entering the basement during heavy rain or seasonal thaw

Here’s what many homeowners don’t realize

Some of these signs are minor. Others are early warnings of larger foundation or water issues.

What you need to do:

  • Understand what’s actually happening
  • Avoid unnecessary repairs
  • Decide whether action is needed now or can wait

There’s no downside to getting clarity.

Our estimate appointments are straightforward, pressure-free, and focused on understanding. If everything looks fine, we’ll tell you. If it doesn’t, you’ll know your options.

Why Our Basement Waterproofing Lasts

Not all basement water solutions do the same thing.

Many systems are designed to manage water after it enters the basement. They redirect it to a drain or sump, but moisture still passes through the foundation, leaving conditions where dampness, mold, and odors can persist.

We take a true waterproofing approach.

By sealing the foundation exterior with a seamless rubber membrane and protecting it with insulation board, we stop water before it enters — not after

Waterproofing vs. Water Control

Some companies claim to “control” basement water by spraying the interior walls and installing a baseboard drainage system. This doesn’t stop water from entering your basement—it only redirects it after it’s already inside.

  • Water control systems collect water at the interior wall and route it to a drain or sump pump.
  • These systems do not prevent moisture, dampness, or water intrusion through the foundation.
  • Moisture remaining in the walls can still contribute to mold, mildew, and pest activity.

Waterproofing vs. Dampproofing

The major differences

Most new foundations are only dampproofed, not waterproofed. What does this mean?

  • Poured foundations are typically coated with tar.
  • Block foundations are usually parged and coated with tar.
  • Tar and parging are only water-resistant—not waterproof.
  • Over time, parging can crack under pressure and tar can deteriorate.

To waterproof your foundation we

  • Apply a seamless rubber membrane to your foundation to prevent water penetration
  • Add insulation board to the membrane for added protection
